The Art of Dumplings
For our first ever dinner ritual, I hosted 10 people at the House of Color community space in July, 2024 in Berlin for an evening of guided meditation, sharing circle, followed by guided instruction on how to fold Chinese-style, vegan dumplings, also known as ( 饺子 /jiǎozi/ ).
While dumplings are found all over the world in many shapes, sizes and forms, our diverse community was able to play with creative folding techniques and enjoyed their dumplings over laughter and conversation.

The Art of Sushi
For our second dinner ritual in 2024, I hosted 7 people once again at the House of Color community space in August in Berlin for an evening of guided meditation, a sharing circle, followed by guided instruction on how to roll Japanese sushi rolls, filled with sushi rice, seaweed, avocado, cucumber, tofu and shrimp.
Participants were eager to start rolling their sushi rolls in pairs, getting creative with their ingredients of choice, and entering the flow state as they practised using the correct ratio of rice to sushi ingredient fillings.

Origin
A Dinner Ritual was initiated in the summer of 2024 with the intention of bringing like-minded people together from the community to gather for something that was accessible and also delicious to eat.
As a Chinese-Canadian, born and raised in Toronto, living in Berlin from 2020-2025, and currently situated in Porto, I wanted to share my love of Asian cuisine by teaching others how to make their favorite dishes at home.
Folding and wrapping dumplings while gabbing about the best combination of dipping sauces (i.e. soy, scallions, sesame oil) and rolling sushi maki together while collaborating on choice of fillings (i.e. avocado, tofu, cucumber, shrimp) created an enjoyable environment where participants felt at ease as if they were coming together in a friend’s cozy living room setting.
